The
versatile, intelligent red fox adapts well to different conditions and
has excellent senses and powers of endurance. Although sometimes about
at all hours, it is typically active at night, resting during the day in
a burrow abandoned by another animal or dug by itself. It lives alone outside
the breeding season and is a skillful hunter, preying largely on rodents
but also on rabbits, hares, birds, insects and invertebrates.
