The red fox is very smart. It has excellent senses and powers of endurance. The red fox is active at night, resting during the day. It lives in a burrow abandoned by another animal or dug by itself. It lives alone outside the breeding season and is a skillful hunter. It eats mostly rodents but also eats rabbits, hares, birds, and insects.

The male brings food for his family until the female is able to leave the cubs or take them out foraging. The red fox is found throughout the taiga.
