Nunamiut School, North Slope, Alaska - Many of the students live in remote villages near the Arctic Circle. This is the most northern school district in the U.S.A., located north of the Arctic Circle. Camera crews went on location to get a first hand look at the Anaktuvuk Pass, the ancestral home of the Nunamiut or inland Eskimos. Thousands of caribou still migrate through the Pass each fall and spring, as they have for thousands of years. The village is linked to the outside world only by air ... and of course, technology. The The Iñupiat Heritage Center provides a history of the area and its people.

Leo Ussak Elementary School - Rankin Inlet, Nunavut, Northern Canada - Leo Ussak is called the "coolest" school in Canada! You'll find Rankin Inlet on Hudson Bay, north of the Arctic Circle. Technology again gives you the opportunity to know more about the Land of the Midnight Sun and the Inuit. Teacher William Belsey not only helps students develop the school's Internet site, but is a fantastic photographer as well. Several of his photos can be found in the virtual tundra biome!

Barnaskoli Vestmannaeyja - Vestmannaeyja, Iceland - Here is a small school on a southern island where thermal springs warm the area year round. Iceland is just below the Arctic Circle. The Vestmanneyja or the Westman Island is an Icelandic resort. There is volcanic activity on the island and in many places steam rises from the ground. Several links give you a nice introduction to the area.

Glerarskoli Akureyri - Akureyri, Iceland - This Icelandic school is in a small coastal town, slightly south of the Arctic Circle. Akureyri is primarily a fishing village. Very few trees grow in this part of the world. Thermal springs heat much of the town. Site is in Icelandic.
