Wildflowers & Pollinators

How does the butterfly help pollinate the prairie plants?

The prairie blazingstar is one of the most beautiful flowers on the tallgrass prairie. It has magenta colored flowers on a spike at the top of its stalk. The stalk is often up to 5 feet high. Many kinds of butterflies are attracted to this flower. When the butterfly visits a prairie blazingstar, it picks up pollen on its furry body. Then it flies to another prairie blazinstar and drops off its cargo, which pollinates the plant!
